Loop the loudest part of your track, and mix that first. Compress the loudest bit, and match the input and output volume. The peak volume of the track stays the same, but the quieter parts come up. Also, the loudest part of the track is likely to include all instruments, because it’s the climax. Starting your eq here will be helpful.
