Quick Audio Tip #25

When using compression, use only a small amount at one time. A good rule of thumb is, don’t compress more than 6dB at once, and don’t limit more than 3dB. You can use multiple compressors and limiters on one track if you need to tame the dynamic range, but don’t push any single plugin too hard, or you will get a “pumping” effect; which is fine if that’s what you’re going for, but not as a general rule.
