Quick Audio Tip #28

Create a mixing flow list. It will really help you save time and stay focused while mixing. I am constantly updating mine. Here is the most current iteration:

  1. Open Logic, import and label tracks, set preferences

  2. Cleanup tracks if necessary

  3. Gain Staging (Loop loudest part of each track, set gain to “sweet spot”, add compression and eq)

  4. Add “mix glue” as minor eq and comp on submaster.

  5. Set levels

  6. Listen and envision. Decide which track is most important by muting all tracks. Emphasize that track.

  7. Setup buses for reverb and parallel compression

  8. Pan tracks.

  9. Automate volume if necessary

  10. Autotune if necessary

  11. “Sweeten” with effects and automation

  12. Detail with headphones, listening close

  13. Double check everything, make sure the submaster is piqueing in the “sweet spot” and bounce.
