A noise gate plugin eliminates quiet sounds from your recording. If you’re tracking in a room with a lot of background noise, these plugins will be helpful. Use these sparingly, because they can alter the tone of your recording. A simplified version of a noise gate that I personally recommend is the Waves NS1, which allows you to gate your signal with one simple fader.
